Towards the end of the Universe - 18.7 billion years after the Big Bang
Here is the view from a black dwarf (the fate of our own Sun), a dead star only slightly bigger than the Earth and yet half as massive as the Sun. Losing energy by radiating gravitational waves, these dead stars slowly migrate toward the galactic centre where they join others. The result is a supermassive black hole.
